Small-room soundbars are a different buying problem
A soundbar for apartment dialogue clarity has to do two things at the same time: make voices easier to understand and avoid turning every movie night into a bass complaint. That is why the best pick is not always the loudest bar or the one with the biggest channel count.
For a compact living room or bedroom setup around 150–180 square feet, I would focus on a real center channel, useful night/listening modes, HDMI eARC, and controlled bass before chasing the most dramatic Dolby Atmos claims. Up-firing drivers can help, but in a small apartment they matter less than clear mids and a subwoofer you can tame.
How we compared these apartment soundbars
We looked at four discounted soundbars that commonly show up for LG OLED owners and small-room buyers: the Sonos Beam Gen 2, Samsung HW-Q810H/HW-Q800-series, LG S90TY, and Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6. The priorities were dialogue clarity, apartment-friendly bass, TV compatibility, movie performance, and how much setup friction each system adds.
Independent lab notes from RTINGS were especially useful here because they highlight the parts that matter in real rooms: whether a bar has a discrete center channel, how convincing the surround and Atmos effects are, whether bass overwhelms the mids, and what voice-enhancement tools are actually available.
The soundbars I would shortlist
1. Samsung HW-Q810H / Q800-series — best balance for movies, dialogue, and value
If you want the strongest all-around pick for an apartment, the Samsung HW-Q810H-style 5.1.2 setup is the one I would lean toward first. The closely related Q800-series has a discrete center channel for voices, a dedicated subwoofer for movie weight, Dolby Atmos support, and Samsung’s Active Voice Amplifier / Voice Enhance features for late-night TV.
The important caveat is that this is not a full rear-speaker surround system. Atmos effects are more “wider and taller front stage” than true overhead bubble. Still, for a small room, that tradeoff is usually acceptable because you get clear dialogue, useful bass, and better movie impact than a compact all-in-one bar.

The Sonos Beam Gen 2 still makes sense in 2026 because it solves the most common apartment problem: voices are easy to hear without needing a separate subwoofer. RTINGS notes that it has a balanced midrange, a discrete center channel, and a dialogue enhancement feature, which is exactly what matters for TV shows, YouTube, and lower-volume movie watching.
The downside is physical: it is a small 5.0 bar. It lacks deep low-bass rumble and does not get as loud as larger systems. That is not a dealbreaker in an apartment, and it may actually be a benefit if you share walls. But if you want action movies to feel big, the Samsung or LG will sound more substantial.

The LG S90TY is a 5.1.3 soundbar with a discrete subwoofer, HDMI 2.1 features including 4K/120Hz passthrough, AI room calibration, Dolby Atmos/DTS:X support, and LG TV extras like WOW Orchestra and wireless Atmos with compatible LG TVs. If you own an LG C3, those integrations are the main reason to consider it.
For dialogue, the S90TY is genuinely capable: it has a dedicated center channel, Clear Voice Pro, and a detailed upper-mid/treble presentation. The caution is bass balance. RTINGS found its subwoofer can overpower the lower mids at times, so apartment users should expect to lower the sub level or use night/voice modes.

It is harder to recommend over the Samsung, LG, or Sonos for a mixed setup. It lacks Wi-Fi playback, has no HDMI input, and its Atmos performance is limited. If the price is excellent and dialogue is the main goal, it can work; if movie immersion and future flexibility matter, the others are stronger.

What to look for in an apartment soundbar
A real center channel matters more than raw wattage. Dialogue is usually anchored in the center, so a 3.1, 5.0, or 5.1.2 bar with a proper center channel will often beat a louder stereo bar for everyday TV.
Subwoofer control matters more than subwoofer size. A dedicated sub can make movies much better, but only if you can turn it down, use night mode, or move it away from shared walls. If you cannot do that, the Sonos Beam Gen 2 is safer.
Do not overbuy Atmos for a tiny room. Up-firing drivers need the right ceiling and seating position. In a 16 m² apartment, clear voices, clean HDMI eARC behavior, and reliable volume leveling will usually improve your life more than marginal height effects.
Our verdict
For most small apartments, I would choose the Samsung HW-Q810H/Q800-series if the price is close to the Sonos Beam Gen 2 and LG S90TY. It gives the best mix of dialogue clarity, movie impact, and useful voice tools without jumping into a large rear-speaker setup.
Choose the Sonos Beam Gen 2 if you want the cleanest, simplest no-subwoofer option. Choose the LG S90TY if you have an LG C3 and value LG-specific features like WOW Orchestra and HDMI 2.1 passthrough. Choose the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 6 only if compact size, Sony TV matching, or a strong local discount makes it the better deal.
